What does Probus stand for?
Probus is an acronym for Pro(fessional) and Bus(iness) and is a Rotary Club sponsored community service programme to provide an avenue for semi-retired and retired people to meet and expand their interests.
Why is it called Probus?
The name “Probus” was suggested by a member who took the first three letters from ‘PROfessional and BUSiness’. It had the advantage that it was a Latin word from which ‘probity’ is derived. The Probus Club of Caterham was met with success, and became known among other Rotary Clubs with new clubs being founded.

How did Probus start?
In 1966, the first Probus Club was established by the Rotary Club of Caterham. Both Clubs were formed to meet the social and intellectual needs of retired businessmen. When it became clear that the Clubs were servicing the same need, the Campus Club changed its name.
