Overtravel stops keep you from unintentionally doing that over time. The sebenza (and many framelocks that don’t want to use the hinderer LBS) use clip placement for the same effect. There’s also knives like the Spyderco Domino that use an internal overtravel stop, on the steel insert on the lockbar.

Is the Benchmade Axis lock good?
The Axis lock is one of the main reasons I own and use Benchmades. Best all-round lock out there IMO. There are stronger locks but none are as smooth and easy as the Axis lock to operate and the Axis is plenty strong enough for my purposes.
