As a reminder, we had announced late last year that we were retiring the Group Health Incorporated (GHI) and HIP Insurance Company of New York (HIPIC) names and replacing them with names that reflect our EmblemHealth identity. This has been done and is in effect. EmblemHealth Plan, Inc.

Did EmblemHealth take over GHI?

EmblemHealth uses unique non-Social Security, number-based identification numbers. For most members, this will be an 11-digit alphanumeric member ID. The IDs start with the letter “K” followed by a unique 8-digit number (a “K-ID”).
